Meditation 101

Meditation 101

Introduction

Are you thinking of starting a meditation practice but feel that you simply don’t know how? With all the knowledge out there on meditation for beginners it can feel pretty overwhelming and intimidating to start out.
Maybe you’ve already tried to start out this practice and quickly became discouraged. If that’s the case, you’re not alone!
The good news is that anybody can find out how to meditate! It’s not complicated at all.

WHAT IS MEDITATION?

It is a state of body and mind that is relaxed and focused. Practitioners of this art report increased awareness, focus, and concentration, also as a more positive outlook in life.
It may be a practice that's typically done alone, during a seated position, with the eyes closed (although it doesn’t need to be any of these things!).

There are some ways to practice it but the common method is learning to figure with the mind. Awareness, focus, and relaxation are key elements.

It is most ordinarily related to monks, mystics, and other spiritual disciplines. However, you don’t need to be a monk or mystic to enjoy its benefits. And you don’t even need a special place to practice it. You can simply even practice it in your own living room.

Although there are various approaches, the elemental principles remain an equivalent. The necessary thing you have to practice is removing obstructive, negative, and wandering thoughts and fantasies, and calming the mind. This clears the mind and increases its productivity.

The negative thoughts, feelings, and emotions generate due to your environmental issues are considered to ‘polluting’ of the mind, and shutting them out is allows for the ‘cleansing’ of the mind in order that it's going to specialize in deeper, more meaningful thoughts.

Some practitioners even exclude all sensory input no sights, no sounds, and zip to the touch and check out to detach themselves from the commotion around them. It's going to seem deafening initially, we are only familiar with constantly hearing and seeing things, but as you do this exercise regularly you'll end up becoming more conscious of everything around you.

If you discover the meditating positions you see on television threatening those with impossibly arched backs, and painful-looking contortions you would like not worry. The principle here is to be during a comfortable position conducive to concentration. this might be while sitting cross-legged, standing, lying down, and even walking.

If the position allows you to relax and focus, then that might be an honest start line . While sitting or standing, the rear should be straight, but not tense or tight. In other positions, the sole no-no is slouching and falling asleep.

Loose, comfortable clothes help tons within the process since tight fitting clothes have a bent to choke you up and cause you to feel tense.

The place you perform should have a soothing atmosphere. it's going to be in your front room, or bedroom, or anywhere that you simply feel comfortable in. you would possibly want an exercise mat if you propose to require on the tougher positions (if you are feeling more focused on doing so, and if the contortionist in you is screaming for release). you'll want to possess the place arranged in order that it's soothing to your senses.

Silence helps most people relax and practice it, so you'll need a quiet, isolated area far away from the ringing of the phone or the humming of the washer. Pleasing scents also help therein regard, so stocking abreast of aromatic candles isn’t such a nasty idea either.
The monks you see on television making those monotonous sounds are literally performing their mantra. This, in simple terms, maybe a short creed, an easy sound which, for these practitioners, holds a mystic value.

Generall steps to meditation 101

Step 1 – Don’t judge yourself!

We all have a reasonably ridiculous image in our head once we believe what meditation 101 consists of. We see a thin yogi with long hair, legs crossed over each other, humming in quiet peace with not an idea within the world.

And it’s true, even now, I sometimes find myself pondering about all the ingredients which will be in my next meal, and even start salivating before realizing now's not the time. But I'm here to offer you a truth which will be liberating for you: It doesn’t matter if your thoughts wander!

The sole thing you've got to try to once you realize is to slowly come to yourself and consider your breathing.  If after 5 seconds your mind wanders again, no worries! Just come again. you'll see that with time, as long as you calmly return each time, you'll get well and better at staying within the zone.

Step 2: Guided or unguided?

If you're new, it'd be best to start out with guided self-growth. I even have been meditating for a short time now and still enjoy it far more than simply silence and crickets. You would possibly decide that you simply choose to be in your own space, which is completely up to you. Now you can skip step 3 ts totally up to you.

Step 3: Choose how you’re getting to hear it

I really get the foremost out of it when someone is guiding me through it and telling me that to consider. If this is often also the case for you, here are my favorite places:

Headspace App- I used this within the very beginning of my relaxation practice because it really teaches you all about and the way to ease into it. The “Basics” only lasts about 5 minutes every day, so it’s great to ease into.

Minis on Spotify or Itunes- These only last about quarter-hour, which is ideal on behalf of me. They need some music during this practice, which I absolutely love, and that I find the woman’s voice very soothing

David Dji Free Guide- These are slightly longer and slightly different from the primary two, but an essential one.

Step 4: Choose your favorite position

When I start I may do by sitting on the ground with your legs crossed because I assumed Hey, the pros must be doing that for something. I quickly got fed up that position because my back would always round over, and that I spent longer considering that than anything else.

Now you can do either sit during a chair or lying down try some alternative ways and places that you simply might enjoy, and you'll soon find your favorite.
